ICU Nursing Staff

ICU Nursing Staff 24/7

Our ICU nursing staff provide round-the-clock, specialized care for critically ill patients, ensuring constant monitoring and personalized attention. Working alongside consultants, physiotherapists, and dieticians, our highly trained nurses deliver exceptional care with a high nurse-to-patient ratio, where each patient is typically assigned a dedicated 'named' nurse.

Roles of ICU Nurses

ICU nurses play a vital role in patient care, performing the following tasks:

  • Taking regular blood tests
  • Adjusting treatment based on test results
  • Administering prescribed drugs and fluids
  • Recording blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels
  • Clearing fluid and mucus from the chest using a suction tube
  • Turning the patient every few hours to prevent skin sores
  • Cleaning teeth and moistening the mouth with a wet sponge
  • Washing the patient in bed
  • Changing bed sheets
  • Changing surgical stockings to aid circulation during prolonged inactivity
  • Applying eye drops to facilitate blinking

Patient Experiences in ICU

Patients consistently praise the exceptional care provided by our ICU staff, particularly their named nurses, who are known for being kind, encouraging, professional, and calm. Memorable experiences include celebrating birthdays in the ICU and, in one case, nurses arranging for a patient to briefly leave the ICU to see his dogs, aiding his recovery.

Enhancing Patient Safety

Intensive care units (ICUs) provide lifesaving care but involve significant risks due to the complexity of treatment. A study conducted from March to June 2012 at General Mohail Hospital and National Mohail Hospital, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia, used a quasi-experimental design to implement a patient safety educational program for 50 ICU nurses (aged 25–40 years). The program improved safety climate, teamwork, and nurse turnover rates, with a statistically significant correlation between safety climate and job satisfaction (p=0.001). Nurses had 1–10 years of ICU experience, with 68% working variable shifts and 32% on day shifts. The program enhanced nurses’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward patient safety, highlighting the need for continuous in-service training and effective collaboration to minimize medical errors and improve patient outcomes.
